Washington, D.C., July 6, 2005 – CARMA International, the Washington, DC-based global media analysis firm, today announced the appointment of Michael G. Carberry as President. Albert Barr, current President and CEO, will remain CEO and become Chairman of the 21-year-old consulting firm. Elizabeth Smith, who currently serves as Chief Operating Officer, will become Senior Consultant.

Mr. Carberry began his career in New York working for several advertising agencies handling campaigns for Alka Seltzer Plus, Lipton Instant Tea and others.
He moved to Washington in 1972 when he joined the US Postal Service as advertising manager. Later that year he was the third person to join Porter Novelli, now one of the world's largest global communications firms.
Mr. Carberry was partner and Executive Vice President at Henry J. Kaufman & Associates and later CEO after the company was acquired by Shandwick PLC in 1986. He also served as Executive Vice President for Shandwick North America.
He was Chairman of Earle Palmer Brown/Washington from 1998 until 2002 when he joined Direct Impact, the grassroots communications subsidiary of Burson Marsteller.
Mr. Carberry is an adjunct professor of marketing at Georgetown University and a retired Colonel in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve. He also holds an MBA from Columbia University.
As President of CARMA International, Mike will manage the Washington, DC headquarters office and serve as chief liaison to CARMA offices around the world.
